My Twenty-Five Things

I guess that if you've been tagged in this note you're supposed to write one like it after you read it, but I'm probably not going to force you to.

1. I sleep on the right side of the bed.
2. I have a birthmark on my chest that looks like a third nipple from far away.
3. My favorite beer is Franziskaner Hefe-Weisse, but I like Boulevard Wheat a lot too.
4. The first concert I ever went to was in Kansas City to see Bad Company with Burnie Roy-Bachman. We spent an afternoon baking a big chocolate cake for V100 and just showed up there hoping to get tickets and sure enough, it worked.
5. I am registered as a Republican.
6. For the first year of college I was following K-State’s pre-pharmacy curriculum, but after working at one for five months I decided to change majors.
7. I am adopted.
8. I hate cigarettes but if I am at a party or a bar and a pretty girl is smoking one I will usually join in.
9. When I was 17 I had to take Accutane for several months.
10. I have asked for a Golden Retriever every Christmas as far back as I can remember and am still, to this day, dog-less.
11. My favorite television show ever is Six Feet Under, followed by LOST, and then maybe Freaks and Geeks, Arrested Development, or Band of Brothers.
12. I am a secular humanist.
13. Tyler Dixon and I invented a game called “Touch Steve.” It’s played with two or more players and the object of the game is for you to try to touch Steven Wright in a place your opponents haven’t touched him yet.
14. I think that Kim Grieves is a freak bitch.
15. I have a scar on my left thumb from when I accidently cut myself with a Swiss Army knife as a kid.
16. I was 16 years old the first time I got drunk and it was at Mark Simonson’s house. I spent most of the night being overly emotional and crying for the better part of an hour before throwing up all over his parents’ brand-new white carpet.
17. I spent most of my free time this last summer eating ice pops and watching Jon & Kate Plus 8 with my roommate Chris.
18. I love you.
19. I probably skipped more classes than I actually went to my last two years of high school. Fellow skippers would usually include John McKenzie, Alex Straus, or Melissa Bruch.
20. My favorite movie is The Shawshank Redemption.
21. I rescued a stray kitten that had an infection a few summers back and it stayed at my place a few days before I was able to take it to an animal shelter. I had fleas in my apartment for at least a month after that.
22. I love karaoke, but only after I’ve had a few.
23. My school mascots (in order) have been the Avondale West Hawks, the Jardine Jaguars, the Topeka High Trojans, and the Kansas State Wildcats. As a side note, this is the first year since we were five that Katie Bell and I have not attended the same school.
24. I worked full-time as a telemarketer the summer after I turned 16.
25. At every party we’ve ever thrown, me and my roommate Tyler get drunk and sing Jay-Z’s “99 Problems."

Coldplay & Jay-Z: Viva La Hova

A few years back Jay-Z released an a capella version of his Black album which started off a tradition of remixing his lyrics into popular music like The Beatles' White album (check out "What More Can I Say?") and Weezer's Blue album (check out "Say it Ain't December 4th"). Recently though DJ Mick Boogie has taken Jay-Z's music catalogue and mixed it together with Coldplay's to make Viva La Hova which you can download in its entirety for free by clicking here. My favorite tracks are "X-Y-Z" and "No Love Coming Home," but I think the whole thing is worth listening to at least once. Enjoy!
